Don't Adjust Your Monitors.

So, there's good news, and not so good news.
Socks!

This is the start of the Summer of Socks '08 pattern, created by Wendy. I'm using some Henry's Attic sock yarn that was dyed 'specially for me by Chris (awww!). Because of the mesh pattern, it kind of looks a bit twisted, but it's such a pretty pattern, and is perfect in pink. What you can't see is the total mess I made of the heel...so it's a good thing no one will see that part. The heel flap is going much better.

Hearts Tunic!

The back, completed. A very simple, and very quick knit. I just love this shade of red, although it doesn't photograph well. Or, it could just be me.

And I have an FO! Wheeeee!

Columbia! All done and blocked. And tried on - no modelled shot as it's a wee bit too warm for that. It fits beautifully, although the sleeves are a bit long (but that's always the case with sleeves...).

I knit it using Jamieson's Aran yarn, 9.5 skeins of Chartreuse, using size 5mm needles. Columbia is from AS' "American Portraits".

However. Here's the bad-ish news:

Don't adjust your monitors! Do you see what I see?? No need to be polite, you can say it.

"Brigitte, what is that off-colour section at the bottom, starting at the hem??"

Why - that would be the one skein that, even though all from the same dye lot - is lighter than every other skein. The only one out of ten.

Yes, I cried. Yes, I swore.

*sigh* I still love it, and am pleased with the way it turned out. Except for that one area that sticks out like a sore thumb... A really bashed up, bruised and mangled thumb.

It will be an outdoor sweater.

Bridge- Love the socks- Chris is good at dying- very pretty.

I have that meme as well- being restricted to one word may be a challenge.

Noogies all around.

The socks are really pretty, I love that shade of pink! I haven't tackled the pattern yet, but plan to before the whole thing is over ...

The Hearts Tunic is just gorgeous, btw.

And Columbia is so pretty - funny, though, since one of the other knitting blogs I read showed an FO with the exact same issue! (If you want to commiserate, it's http://cattywampus.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/07/unintentionally.html). Makes you wonder if it's happening a lot more and we just don't hear about it.

However, if you are like me, you'll wear and enjoy the sweater anyway. I have to wonder if anyone will even notice.

OMG! I thought you meant that the lighter part was at the top. Not the beginning! Jamieson has a lot to answer for. They've got me afraid to begin another Aran. I make enough mistakes on my own without having them mess things even more!

Well done, Chris! The socks are gorgeous.

Wow, that hurts, is it as noticeable in person as it is in the picture? I can't believe we both ended up with the same issue!

Have you considered overdye-ing it? You might be able to get a brown jacquard dye & just tint it enough so the color difference was covered up. It looks like a really nice sweater, if the color variation is going to prevent you from being able to wear it like you hoped it might be worth a shot!

Oh, bummer about Columbia! Curse you, Jamieson! Boo! Hiss!

I'm glad you like the sock yarn! That looks like the perfect pattern for it. :)

Hey. How did this not show up in my blolines last week?

Ooooh. I see what you mean about Columbia. I'd cry too. Then proclaim it as a design element. Cross stitch around it? Blanket stitch? Raining curses on Jamiesons.

The Heart tunic is darling and the socks are cute!

How awful that dye lot "thing" happened to you too.
It happened to me on my Little Rivers Tunic. I noticed it and saved that skein until last hoping I wouldn't need it... then... oops. Look at my 2nd picture on Ravelry. Different color collar and shoulder straps!
Damn!!!
I still wear it though. It's especially noticeable in florescent light so lots of people at work noticed.

Chris did a good job with that yarn. I like Columbia, s/he's unique!

A color variation like that, especially when it's supposed to be the same dyelot, can really put a damper in a beautifully knitted project. But this sweater is way too nice to put into a closet or, no offense to your kitties, used as a cat blanket. :)

Oy. Columbia. Very painful. I'd have cried too. It's still beautiful though! And I love the socks. So pink!

Beautiful sweater and I am so sorry about the yarn/dye/lot/crap/mess. I keep hearing that they have quality control issues - ack! Cool socks too!

Oh No! Boo! Ugh! I can't stand it!
That yarn isn't cheap! BOO! I would use it for outside too. :(

I love that red! and the pink too.

Dh & I did that meme @ dinner... very interesting!

Kitties look like they're hot... keep cool kids!

ACK!! That is horrible about Columbia. I like the suggestion to overdye (not that I know how to do that, but it sounds like it could work).

Love the pink socks. Chris did a great job!

Well, it's still nice to have an FO that fits. I have a nearly-F-O that doesn't fit. It's way too big. I'm going to have to get Mom to help me sew it to size. Very annoying.
